About Pamela
Sheltered Co. is the innovation of Pamela Hunter, a mother of 3, born altruist, and general celebrator of human goodness. There is no person she wouldn’t like to help, and Sheltered Co. allows her to do exactly that.
As a veteran of fashion and design, Pamela knew these blankets couldn’t just be therapeutic and functional; they had to be beautiful too. When her daughter was diagnosed with Autism and Sensory Processing Disorder, Pamela was inspired to find a mechanism to promote both sleep and calm, while helping to promote body regulation. A weighted blanket was the ideal solution.

About Sheltered Co.
Our blankets are soft and sturdy, breathable yet thick--something to envelop and shelter without overwhelming the senses. Hand-woven and using dead stock fabrics, each blanket is constructed with love and meant to be treasured.
We’re dedicated to shattering the stigma that weighted blankets are sterile, clinical and only for those in hardship. Weighted blankets are amazing and for everyone: who couldn’t use a good hug after a long day? Likewise, our blankets are not only natural and handcrafted, but also beautiful.
We never use plastic or polyester beads or pellets to add weight. Instead our woven blankets are constructed from a luxurious and thick jersey, breathable and natural, using only recycled or dead stock fabrics.
Message from Pam
Hi all, I wanted to take a moment to introduce myself. I’m Pamela, the founder and creative director for Sheltered Co.
I have 3 girls (Story Bee, Ransom Fae, & Jo). My husband is Matt and together we also have 4 rescue animals, 2 cats: Simon & Mike and 2 dogs: Steve & Stella. We all live in Mt. Washington located in NE Los Angeles.
When my daughter Ransom was 2.5 years old she was diagnosed with Sensory Processing Disorder...this was in no way news to us as we had watched her suffer through life since she was about 6 months old, but at 2.5 years old we were finally able to put a name to the face of something we were already battling.
Out of desperation and with a very strong recommendation from multiple therapists for weighted objects, I accidentally created a weighted blanket while I was attempting to crochet a rag-rug out of fabric from a yard sale.
From the moment I placed the blanket on my daughter you could immediately see her entire body relax and from then on she has been able to sleep through the night.
My second blanket I ever made was for my aunt while she was going through chemotherapy treatments for stage 4 uterine cancer. The blanket was able to bring her so much comfort while also keeping her cool due to the loose weave and breathability.
I didn’t set out to make a company, but with so much positive response about these blankets changing peoples lives, I feel like I now have the honor and responsibility to keep going!
My background is in fashion, vintage, and art direction. Before the creative world, I held just about every job under the sun. I decided that if I was going to actually create a business, I wanted it to be as sustainable as possible. We only use deadstock or overstock materials for our blankets and nothing goes to waste! We use all of our scrap fabric to make anything from wall hangings to tassels and we are not done creating.
We have moved from working in a garage to a studio warehouse in downtown Los Angeles where my team & I produce these beautifully hand-crocheted weighted blankets.
Thank you so much for your support. We are so happy to have you. ❤️
